Save Time with AutoCAD’s Mirror Command

If you’re looking to increase your productivity when using AutoCAD, mastering the mirror command is probably the most effective step you can take in doing so. When used properly, implementation of this tool can cut your work time in half.

If you consider the appearance of most traditional-looking buildings such as schools, government offices, churches, etc. you’ll likely notice that most of them are symmetrical- if you drew a line directly down the middle of the exterior, both sides are probably exactly the same.

If you’re ever drawing a building such as this in AutoCAD, do yourself a favor and try working with the mirror command. The mirror command can contribute significantly to your productivity, in some cases completely eliminating half your workload. When using this tool, you can mirror objects and corresponding text to recreate a perfect duplicate on the opposite side of the structure. In doing so, the text will automatically correct itself in order to remain in the right direction, and you’ll save the time normally spent re-drawing the same exact image twice.
