Our Favorite Fall Design Trends

As an interior designer, a shift in the seasons should signal more than just a change in the weather. The look of your clients’ homes should always be appropriately updated as well in order to reflect a special time of year. Even small additions of décor and bedding can go a long way in adding some distinctive touches to any interior, helping your clients and their guests get in the seasonal spirit in an aesthetically pleasing way. This fall, here are some tips for adding rustic autumn vibes to any home:

Colors

• Most fall seasons, we repeatedly see resurgence in rustic, changing-of-the-leaves-esque colors such as deep auburn, maroon or russet. This year we’ve noticed an exciting exception to this cyclical trend in the form of deep jewel tones. Try adding sapphire or indigo accents in an effort to embrace a unique trend and try something unexpected.
• If you’re working with clients who prefer a less risky look, all-grey is also a popular aesthetic for fall 2016. Try mixing and matching different hues and shades to develop a cool, industrial-modern look.

Décor

• Metallic gold accent pieces are a great way to add some glamour to an otherwise outdoorsy look this year. Think candleholders, catch-all trays, dinnerware or any other small accents that might work in a particular home.
• Displaying a bouquet of seasonal flowers is always a festive way to decorate for a certain time of year. While fake floral options are easier to maintain, if your client would prefer the real thing simply make sure to remove all leaves below the water line and change the vase’s water every three days.
• Many designers are too eager to pack up the patio furniture at the end of summer and wind up missing out on a great opportunity to decorate a cozy outdoor area at a time of year when it can be frequently enjoyed. If your clients usually sit around the fire pit throughout the summer but put it away at the end of August, tell them to reconsider. Try adding colorful patterned throw blankets and accent pillows around the outdoor spaces instead. That way, clients can continue to take advantage of mild outdoor nights in a cozy, seasonally appropriate space.
