Wedding Dress Shopping Tips

As a wedding planner, the bride you’re working with may or may not ask you to accompany her when she goes shopping for a dress. But whether or not you actually wind up joining her for the shopping trip, there are a number of things we recommend you suggest to all clients regardless:

  • Always make an appointment at a bridal salon rather than simply walking in.
  • The number of people the bride brings along is obviously ultimately her decision, but we recommend keeping it to one or two. It’s always good to have some objective advice about a dress decision, but when there are too many people, this often results in too many opinions, which can heavily and unnecessarily delay the decision making process.
  • Tell the bride to find pictures of gowns she likes and bring them with you. This can really help the staff pick looks she’ll like in a timelier manner.
  • Have the bride do her hair and makeup before she shops. Even if it’s not done exactly the way it will look on her wedding day, it always helps buyers get a better sense of the overall look if their hair and makeup are done up slightly more than usual.
  • Tell her to bring a pair of heels with her- if she has the shoes she plans to wear on the big day, she should bring those. If not, she should simply pick a pair similar in height and style to what she plans on buying in the future.
